Attention on demand

The greatest benefit I’ve noticed from Brain Integration Technique (BIT) is the ability to pay attention when I want to. Today I needed to do a bunch of writing to cover an important news development for one of the blogs that pays me to write. The content was mostly unfamiliar to me. All I had to do was to decide to focus and the attention came. For two and a half hours I researched and wrote. The material I had to write about was tricky. There were various threads of fact and speculation I needed to assimilate, organize, and write about.

Pre-BIT I’d do lots of avoidance. Managing a bunch of unfamiliar detail, especially with any degree of complexity to it, is the ADD person’s nightmare. I took the challenge on. Time went by quickly. When I was done writing I was quite pleased with the logic and flow of the article.

Another example. I was at an event last night that was full of high school students who were talking amongst themselves even while speakers were presenting at the podium. Not very long ago I would not have been able to pay attention to the speakers. I would have gotten frustrated and angry. Last night, I just put my attention in the front of the room and was able to easily ignore the noise around me.

I need to add that, while attention is easy now, I still have to decide to focus. It’s very easy for me to stay unfocused if I don’t consciously decide to pay attention. When I meditate now, which is also made possible by BIT, I will stay unfocused until I think to follow my breath or bring my awareness to my body. BIT is a great enabler but it won’t do the work for you. You need to make the effort.
